Pelican 1510 Review
by migs
So with a few jobs coming up, I decided to get a carry-on ready case that would fit enough gear for a destination shoot. My co-worker Ryan was sporting a Pelican 1510 in military green and it was looking pretty damn sweet. Literally minutes later, I bought one from Amazon in desert tan.
Being that I have this problem of wanting something and wanting it now, I ended up ordering the wrong case. These cases either come with foam padding, padded dividers, or no padding at all. I originally wanted the padded dividers but mistook foam padding for the dividers. So I’m pretty much stuck with these foam pieces because I don’t want to ship this back to amazon and re-order the case with the padded dividers. They do sell the dividers separately, so I guess I’ll just wait and see how this foam padding works out.
Anyway, this case is awesome. It’s rugged, sturdy, acts as a stool on location and rolls really well. The only thing I think would be an issue is the weight. Obviously, being a hard case, it’s packing some weight without gear inside. But that’s ok with me. I figure this is a case to get me to an on location shoot rather then a case I plan to tour cities with.
So far, I’m able to fit the following:
Speed light
Pocket wizard flex x2
Canon 85L
Canon 200L (2.8)
Canon 5dmk II Gripped with r-strap connector, 35L and hand grip
R-Strap
Blower and lens brush
Batteries
Diffuser
CF cards
Lens hoods
Keep in mind, this was all pretty much impromptu because I wasn’t sure I was going to even give this foam set a try but I think I’ll see how it goes. I pretty much just plucked away until the specific gear fit. I have to admit, I did this carelessly but I’m fine with the outcome. Anyway, see pics below… doesn’t my LV bag match perfectly? Now I just gotta find some awesome stickers to personalize it. I’m thinking an Apple logo would fit nicely.

I’m familiar with Pelican cases. Heather uses one for her Glock. They are sturdy, bomb proof, water proof — they are awesome.
Bomb proof?! Dang! haha
Saw your Pelican 1510 review. Those are some great cases. I do like the padded dividers for photo gear but the foam works great as well.
Here is my review (also features a LV bag) if you want to see how I set mine up.

I want it. Not for its use but, for its looks. The ruggedness and the color and you said it’s available in Military Green??? Pair the two…je’diy!!!!
I can imagine you casually strolling up to a Learjet with this gear rolling in one hand, your speedy bag in the other, and a fat cigar in your mouf
I agree with Dennis, the Pelican 1510 with Padded Dividers offers more customizability: http://www.pelicanonline-ralphs.com/1510-carry-on-case-with-padded-divider.htm
The foam interior tends to falls to pieces after a while, but the padded dividers are covered in nylon, so they last considerably longer.
Great case all around though!
Yea, I agree. Actually picked up a set!
